This District Judge made little attempt to hide her prejudices, and didn’t like being put to rights on the crucial finer points of protest and obstruction law by the defence team. After an hour of legal wrangling about her directions to the jury before they retired, she insisted on inserting her view that “young men shouldn’t be allowed to take the law into their own hands”. The defence case had shown this to be demonstrably untrue. At the end of the trial in a vindictive act of spite she withheld court travel costs from all defendants.
